Chitty Chitty Bang Bang

Movie: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
Genre: Fantasy, Musical
Directed by: Ken Hughes
Produced by: Albert R. Broccoli
Based On: Ian Fleming’s “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang: The Magical Car”
Music by: Robert B. Sherman and Richard M. Sherman

Jemima and Jeremy Potts, the kids of the inventor Caractacus Potts, disagree with Mr. Coggins’ idea of selling an old race car that they had come to love playing on. They make Mr. Coggins promise that he wouldn’t give it away until they come back after asking their father.

As they run back to their house, they almost nearly dash into a car driven by whom they came to know as Truly. Truly gets to know that Mr. Potts doesn’t care about sending the children to school. She drops the children in their house and is determined to have a conversation with Mr. Potts about the children. But Potts is far too busy and sees her as a nuisance. When she tells him that his children would have almost been run over by her car, and that he should teach them to go to school, he gets angry and asks her to leave the place immediately. Outside, her car doesn’t start, and he starts it up for her. They both part in a not-very-friendly manner.

Mr. Potts and his two children go to Mr. Scrumptious to sell Potts' “Toot Sweets” or sweets that whistle. There, he gets to find out that Truly is Scrumptious’ daughter! She gains him an interview with her father and they both together introduce the “Toot Sweets”. But Edison, their dog, intrudes, and spoils everything.

Mr. Potts then goes to the fair to use one of his inventions to earn money. But when his invention goes amiss, he runs to a dance-show and earns some money. With the money, he gets the car that Jemima and Jeremy had been asking him. He converts this car into a shiny, usable one, and they all go on a picnic. The three name the car Chitty Chitty Bang Bang!

On the way, they meet Truly Scrumptious again. Her car run into the water and stops. So, she accompanies them to the picnic when the children insist. There, they have a lot of fun. The children ask their father to tell them a story.

He starts telling them a story about pirates, castles, children and more, where Chitty Chitty Bang Bang flies in the air, and floats in water taking Jeremy, Jemima, Truly, Grandpa Potts and himself on an amazing adventure!

Finally, the story ends happily. On reaching home, he finds Scrumptious playing with Grandpa Potts. He signs the contract for “Toot Sweets” and becomes rich! He marries Truly Scrumptious and lives happily ever after!

I loved the movie completely! The songs were so nice, and so were the characters. My most favourite one was Mr. Potts, and following him was Grandpa Potts! I loved all the characters.

Just like for Mary Poppins, I feel it is under the must-watch-without-fail category!!

The Muppets

Movie: The Muppets
Genre: Musical, Comedy
Directed by: James Bobin
Produced by: David Hoberman, Todd Lieberman
Story by: Jason Segel, Nicholas Stoller
Music by: Christophe Beck

Gary, as a young boy watches the Muppet Show, on TV with his puppet-y brother- Walter, and they like it very much. Walter grows, but actually doesn’t grow, and becomes a great fan of the muppets- especially, Kermit the frog. So, Gary, now a grown man, plans a trip to Los Angeles with his ladylove, Mary, and his puppet-y brother- Walter. They go to the old Muppet Theatre to look around. But to Walter’s disappointment, there are no muppets anymore. The place is empty, and there is a guide who shows them around. Walter enters Kermit's place and looks at everything awe-struck. He hides under the furniture when he finds a man and a few evil muppets discussing to buy the theatre and dig it for oil production, and that he will withdraw from the project only with ten million dollars. Walter is shocked. He reports this to Gary and Mary. They go to Kermit’s place so that Walter can talk to the frog muppet. Walter convinces Kermit to gather the old muppet troop and perform for one last time- The Muppet Show.

They gather all the old troop muppets- Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, and the rest. They practice hard and get Veronica accept their show to be televised. They finally stage the show. First there are no audience. Then they start coming in. Walter fulfills his dream of being a part of the muppets as he performs his bit of the show. Money starts pouring in. Tex Richman tries to disrupt their show as much as possible, by cutting off power, to make sure that their funds don’t reach a million. But Mary, being a good mechanic, repairs all damage. The show proceeds. But Mr. Richman cuts off all the calls so that funds can’t be raised and the money stops with $9,999,999. And Richman declares that the muppets have failed and that he owns the place for himself.

Sad, the muppets go away. But outside the theatre, they see the streets filled with people crying out “muppets” and cameras clicking on their faces. Richman changes his mind and gives the Muppet Theatre back. Walter finally joins with the muppets. Mary and Gary are happy. All ends well.

The movie was very, very funny. But it was sort of nice. I don't really love it, but I don't dislike it either. It was height of comedy!

Mary Poppins

Movie: Mary poppins
Genre: Classics/ Musical
Directed by: Robert Stevenson
Produced by: Walt Disney
Based on: Mary Poppins by P. L. Travers
Music by: Richard M. Sherman, Robert B. Sherman
Cast: Julie Andrews(Mary Poppins), Dick van Dyke(Bert), David Tomlinson(George Banks), Glynis Johns(Winifred Banks), Karen Dotrice(Jane), Matthew Garber(Michael), Hermione Baddeley(Ellen)

Katie Nanna, the nanny of Jane and Michael, withdraws from her post not being able to tolerate the kids’ tricks on her. Mr. and Mrs. Banks are on the look out for able nannies when Mary Poppins comes to them. Mary Poppins, a fairy answering the children’s call for a kind and sweet nanny, who has rosy cheeks and looks pretty good, gets the vacant post immediately. The kids start loving her from the start. Mary Poppins takes them on adventurous journeys, she being a fairy. Mary, Bert, Jane and Michael have lots of fun.

The father, Mr. Banks, starts getting irritated when the children tell about their adventures with Mary and Bert. He summons Mary Poppins for an “explanation”. But all that Mary says is,” I would like to make something very clear. I never explain things.”

Mary understands that the children want their father to show them his love. So she makes him take them out to the bank he works in. There, Michael wants to feed the birds there by getting them some food from the bird lady for tuppence. But the managers of the bank force the boy and take the tuppence to tell him that he can save it in the bank. But immediately, he and Jane start shouting, “Give me my money.” People in the bank think that the bank is not giving their money back and so, all of them start demanding their money. There is chaos, and the two children run off, grabbing their tuppence. On the streets, when they get lost, they meet their old friend- Bert. He takes them back home.

George Banks is fired from his job. And he realises at that moment how much he loves his children, and the good Mary Poppins has done to his home. He goes back singing, and cheerful, and takes his children out to fly a kite. When nobody notices, and when everything is well, Mary Poppins leaves silently. Bert wishes her goodbye!

I loved the part when the kids go around singing to everybody- "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious." I also loved the dance of the chimney Sweeps. My favourite character is Bert followed by George Banks, and Winifred Banks. I also love the Admiral, and of course- Mary Poppins!

I simply loved the movie. It was fantastic! I feel it is under the must-watch-without-fail category...
